Other Groups and Activities
Here are some other ways to get involved in at St Mary’s:
Taking care of the church
Whether it’s dusting, sewing, flower arranging or helping out in the office, there’s plenty that goes on behind the scenes. St Mary’s also has a supportive Friends of St Mary’s Society, which provides funds for maintaining the church building.
As well as a team of welcomers who help at Sunday services, there are also volunteers who are on hand to welcome visitors during the week in the summer months.
Transition Project. The Transition Project provides a free, open door service to help those who are looking for work. We run a free clinic every Tuesday morning from 10 am to 12 noon in St Mary's Parish Rooms next to the Church. It is staffed by volunteers who have first-hand experience of job hunting and can provide practical support with internet searching, CV writing and interview technique. PCs are available for internet searching and help is at hand if you need it. Just as important, tea and coffee is provided for those that just want a chat. Advice also available on our website at www.transitionproject.co.uk
We also support the work of Jimmy’s Cambridge Homeless Project - www.jimmyscambridge.org.uk, Uttlesford Food Bank and Saffron Walden Street Pastors amongst other local organisations.

Mental Health Initiative
Informal ‘Coffee, Cake and Company’ sessions are scheduled for various Sunday afternoons in St Mary’s parish rooms. Those affected by mental ill health issues in any way and their families are welcome, and it is good to know that we are all welcomed and valued at St. Mary’s. No need to book – just pop in to make new friends or to chat. You’re most welcome to come along for all of the session or part of it. We sit round tables chatting, drinking and eating cake. Sometimes we even play some games. In the last 10 minutes or so we have a quiet reflection, a hymn and a prayer. We usually meet every 3rd Sunday of the month from 3 to 4pm. Put Coffee, Cakes and Company into our search box (top right of this page) to find the next meeting on our Calendar.
With a tower of 12 bells, St Mary’s has a society of bellringers, who ring for Sunday services and weddings. Find out more about St Mary’s Bells here.
