Fairtrade Stall

Fairtrade June 2023-1-800

Our Aim
To raise the profile of Fairtrade within St. Mary’s Church by showcasing a range of Fairtrade products and explain the benefits of buying Fairtrade items for farmers, workers and shoppers.

Dates
There will be a Fairtrade Stall at St. Mary’s Saffron Walden once a month, after the 10:30am service, on the following dates in 2023:
•    11th June
•    16th July
•    13th August

Please note – we can only take cash payments.

New in 2023
Traidcraft plc, the company that provided our Fairtrade items, went into administration early in 2023. We sold off our stock during February and March whilst we looked for a new supplier.

After lots of research, we have arranged to sell Fairtrade products that are provided by the local Oxfam shop in Saffron Walden, on a sale-or-return basis. We are very grateful to the manager, Lucie Heyburn, for supporting our Fairtrade stall this way. Each month we will continue to offer a range of tea, coffee, chocolate and some toiletries. We sell the items at RRP and all the proceeds go back to Oxfam.

Transform Trade (the partner organisation of Traidcraft plc) continues to exist and is focused on supporting producers and campaigning for change to the trading system.

Previously in 2022
In 2022 there were ten Fairtrade Stalls at St. Mary’s: nine after the 10am service and one at the Christmas Fair in November. We sold a wide range of products including chocolate, biscuits, tea, coffee, pasta, washing liquids and rubber gloves!

During 2022, our total sales were £1,524.55 and we have made a profit of £196.03. We have used £172 of this profit to purchase the following charity gifts from Christian Aid:
•    A beehive
•    A sheep
•    Train a tailor
•    20 cocoa saplings
•    An emergency hygiene kit for displaced people
